Arthur C Clarke is knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and becomes ‘Sir Arthur’

-2001

Arthur C Clarke Trust is set up in Sri Lanka; it eventually becomes custodian of Clarke literary estate and diving companies Underwater Safaris and Scuba Safaris

-2004

Indian Ocean tsunami kills over 35,000 in Sri Lanka alone, and causes massive damage. Arthur C Clarke appeals to the world to help Sri Lanka recover and rebuild

-2007

Arthur Clarke turns 90, and the Space Age is 50. In a video released online, Clarke reflects on his ’90 orbits around the Sun’ and lists out three last wishes

-2008

Arthur Clarke dies on March 19, and is buried at Colombo General Cemetery in a secular funeral. His epitaph reads: “He never grew up, but he never stopped growing”

Arthur Clarke’s final novel, The Last Theorem (co-authored with Frederick Pohl) is posthumously published

Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination is set up at University of California San Diego to “understand, enhance and enact the gift of human imagination”
